Birgu is the foremost maritime city of Malta which has been the centre of seafaring activity on the island for over 1000 years. In the Middle Ages, the harbour provided services such as dry-docks, storage facilities and above all a safe haven where merchants from the maritime cities of Genoa and Spain called to trade and take on supplies. All this happened under the protection of the castle that was built on the head of the Birgu promontory.

Today, one can visit and experience many of the sites associated with various historical events that happened around Birgu. Fort St Angelo still stands proudly at the entrance to Dockyard Creek, witness to nearly one thousand years of history and numerous battles. The old naval bakery today hosts the Malta Maritime Museum where one can admire unique artefacts on display. The narrow and winding streets of the walled town are charming in themselves and one can stumble across architectural gems such as the Inquisitor’s Palace.

Following the departure of the Royal Navy, the recent construction of the ultra-modern yacht marina has given a new maritime function to this beautiful historic harbour.

It is from this lovely base that you can plan your own sailing. Visit the three islands of Gozo Comino and Cominotto with their pristine beaches and caves. Gozo is the second biggest island full of character and charm. One can either use the good marina at Mgarr Harbour or anchor in one of the beaches.

Quiet compared to Malta, Gozo definitely is worth a visit ashore. Comino is excellent for swimming in the famous blue lagoon which also provides excellent shelter from all winds for anchoring at night. From here you can sail round the Maltese Islands returning for an evening dip in the pristine waters of the lagoon. In Malta the large Mellieha Bay facing NE makes for excellent anchoring with unlimited space.

Montenegro is rapidly becoming a popular destination with the nautical enthusiasts. The topography of the country is basically characterized by its rugged mountains, river valleys, and long coast, which is facing the Adriatic Sea and a common venue for a good sailing in Montenegro.

A yacht charter can cruise all the way to the Gulf of Kotor, or Boka Kotorska Bay which is a fjord located in the southernmost portion of Europe. It has a very interesting history as well as ancient civilization. Cruising through the bay, you can see several small coastal towns which create an impression of the sleeping beauties that don't lose any of their exquisiteness despite the century’s long sleep. Rich in architectural details from the ancient times, on the inside and outside of the buildings, they will not leave you indifferent.

Budva is a great spot for sailing in Montenegro. With wide variety of beaches to choose from, certainly, you will never run out of good places to visit. You can begin at Guvance, or small beach.

Your holiday vacation will never be complete without going to Ulcinj. It is filled with a lot of beautiful bodies of water, such as Velika Plaza, the longest beach found in the Adriatic Sea. Ada Bojana, on the other hand, is a river that is famous for the sandy beaches, while Valdanos is a bay with a lot of olive trees located at the coastlines. At the town proper, you can find plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping booths, galleries where you can stay for a day or two.

In Bar, cultures meet and seem to mix in breathtaking ways. Bar is an important destination for travelers looking to taste all that Montenegro has to offer in a single, magnificent place. The old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remnants from the 15 th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola, represent the historic and cultural monuments of this town.

Tivat is located in the central part of the Boka Kotorska bay. Although it is the youngest town in the Boka region, Tivat has a lot of interesting and attractive destinations. In the city it self there is the natural marina Kaliman.

Located along one of Montenegro's most beautiful bays is Kotor, a city of traders and famous sailors, with many stories to tell. The old Mediterranean port of Kotor, surrounded by an impressive city wall built by House of Nemanjic, is very well preserved and protected by UNESCO. Between 1420 and 1797, Kotor and its surroundings were under the rule of the Republic of Venice and the Venetian influence remains among the architectural influences. Through the entire city the buildings are criss-crossed with narrow streets and squares. With the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen one of the great Mediterranean landscapes is created.

Herceg Novi: The town was founded in 1382. It’s called a 'city of the sun', thanks to the large number of sunny days all year round. The centre of Herceg Novi is Stari Grad, the core of the city.
